DOTA Pro Guidance

Posted by -Hunt- in Untagged

Introduction to Dota What is DotA Allstars? DotA Allstars is a WarCraft 3 UMS (Use map settings). The game begins with choosing a hero from either the Sentinel or the Scourge. From there you attack the other teams base alongside your team's "creeps" which spawn periodically. The objective of the game is to destroy the opposing teams world tree which is protected by towers.

Heroes Heroes are the driving force of DotA Allstars. A hero can attack, use skills, and revive after death. At the beginning of each game, a player is allowed to select or random one hero to use in the game from the taverns on either corner of the map. The taverns and heroes that can be selected depend on the game mode chosen by the host. As the game progresses, heroes gain experience from the death of enemy units, and can level up when certain threshold experience values are reached. Because additional levels grant extra attributes and skills, hero leveling is one of the core aspects to any game.

Skills Each hero has 4 learnable skills: 3 basic skills and 1 ultimate. With the exception of the Invoker, there are 4 levels for each basic skill, 3 levels of ultimate, and 10 levels of Attribute bonuses, which grant +2 to each stat, for a total of 25 skill levels. Each hero has a unique skill set, with an enormous diversity of effects, from mobility to nukes to auras to disables, the endless combinations of which make DotA the rich strategic game that it is today.

Death When a hero dies to any unit on the enemy team, all enemy heroes in the area gain experience, while the killer receives bonus gold and adds to his/her streak. If the Scourge or Sentinel kill a hero, the bonus gold is divided between all the heroes on that team. If the hero dies to a neutral creep or is denied by a friendly hero, no experience or bonus gold is given to the enemy team. A dead hero will revive after a period of time equal to his level multiplied by 4 seconds. Gold is also lost upon death, equal to his level multiplied by 30 gold.

Items Items are an integral part of DotA, and as the right choice of items can make a game, the wrong choice can break a game. Gold in DotA can be spent only on buying back hero, and on buying items. DotA currently has 105 items, sold in 11 different shops. There are two copies of every type of shop. 9 of the shops have a copy at each of the bases, and the "secret shop" and the "new secret shop" each have one copy on the top left half of the map, and one on the bottom right. Items can cost from as low as 50 gold, to up to 8250 gold.

As of 6.52, items have a muted form, when a player picks up an item that's dropped by another player, in order to prevent item stealing. There are exceptions to this rule: items are not muted when the picked up item is a basic regeneration item/consumable, in the short list of other exceptions, or the former owner of the item has left the game. For more information on the exceptions, see Pooling.

What's the main factors to win this game?

TeamWork Dota is a team game whereby you can't win the game by your own. You must cooperate and work closely with your teammates. Therefore, teamwork is the main criteria to win the game.

Personal Skills The personal skills including farming, deny, last hit, pull creeps etc.

Farming - Normally, the heroes with skills like wave, fan, summon will be having advantages in farming. For those heroes without relevant skills i will suggest to get an item called Hand of Midas.

Denying - By denying your opponent's creeps, there will be a level gap between you and your enemies. Logical thinking, a hero with lower level is easily to get killed by a hero with higher level. I highly recommend new dota players to train their farming and creeps denying skills in AI mode. Sometimes you don't want to play against a human, but just try somethings out. That's where DotA artificial intelligence (AI / computer) maps come in handy. With these maps you can be your own Dota guide by trial and error. You can find these DotA Allstar versions in the AI downloads section.

Last Hit - Last Hit means doing the final blow to an enemy creep, in order to get the gold. It is an essential skill for every good player. Last Hitting is important for lane control. When you are last hitting and denying effectively, then you can keep creeps close to your tower, which is helpful when avoiding ganks.

Fog of War - Fog normally happened at the places around the trees especially during the night. If you're chasing by heroes, try to stick with the trees during the night and you'll be surprising you may escaped from them. Below is a video for your better reference.

Pull Creeps - Pull creeps is part of the personal skills too. By pulling creeps, your opponents level will lower than yours. The video below shows that how pull creeps works in Dota.

Alertness - There's a mini map at the down left corner in the dota map. The purpose of this map is basically for your better reference where the opponents and your allies are around. You have to look at this mini map always and if you found that there are 3 - 4 enemies lost in this mini map while your teammates are far away from you, it's better to hide rather then continue farming on the lane.

Heroes Heroes is another major factor to win the game. Basically, an ideal team will consist of tankers, attackers, gankers and supporters. The tankers will be the one who walk in front while pushing. The gankers and supporters will help to gang bang and cover the attackers to farm. You can just imagine if a team of pushing heroes like spider, furion, rhasta etc vs a team of late game heroes eg: faceless void, montred, troll etc. It's obviously the pushing heroes will win the game easily.

Ways and Tips to become a Dota Pro

1. DoTA is all about... team play.

More important than even yourself. If you can't play as a team you'll lose.
Team play is great way to increase your fun, especially when both sides understand the concept of team play.

2. Arrow keys are your friend.

Use the arrow keys to constantly pan the area around you. A big mistake is a lot of people tend to have tunnel vision
when it comes to playing. Expand your tunnel vision an realize you need to know what's going on around you all the time.
It's also a good idea to use the arrow keys to pan the map in font of you character while moving to see what's ahead of you.

3. The minimap is your friend.

Occasionally glance at the minimap to be aware of where friendly and enemy heroes are. That way you decrease
the likeliness of surprise.

4. If you character is ranged, Skadi and Lifesteal stack.

Learn the Orb effects table, there are advantages to knowing it. Google "Dota orb effect table" to find it easily.

5. Using the teleport scroll travel around the maps to cover your teammates.

By using the teleport scroll or boot of travel, you may cover your teammates while they're in danger.

6. Deny creeps to keep your opponents under-leveled.

Creep denying is a great way to keep you opponents under-leveled, always go for that last hit. Use the Alt key
to reveal their help.

7. If you are the target of an enemy tower and there are friendly units around. Don't run. Instead attack a friendly unit and the tower will switch targets.

This is a great trick and has saved me many trips back to the fountain. When you are pushing a tower and its attack
lands on you don't run back. Instead, target a friendly unit(hero or creep) and attack it. The tower will switch its target.
Note: sometimes you have to repeat attack friendly units (once or twice) before the tower switches its target.

8. Learn how to use the fog.

A big part of staying alive is knowing how to run away. Here is an example of using the fog. Suppose you are being
chased down river and you see a ramp. Run up the ramp and as soon as you are up it, turn around and run back down,
it's a great way to shake off opponents. There are many possibilities like the one I just mentioned for escaping.

9. Know your enemies abilities and item builds.

Keep track of your opponents items and be aware of their abilities. The best way to do this is to try all the heroes
at least once to get an idea of what they can do. DoTA in some senses if like chess. If you know what the opposing
characters can do then you know how to counter them.

Lastly, i would like to thanks for the dota map creator and technical teams who fixing the bugs, creating new heroes, balance the heroes' skills and abilities etc. Keeps going team, i will support Dota always. =)
